THE KURSK

 Wednesday 22nd July at 8:00pm

“....possibly one of the best pieces of Independent Theatre I have had the pleasure of seeing... a fast paced piece that will have you on the edge of your seat.”
-  Nigel Munro-Wallis, 612 ABC Brisbane

A clever, thrilling and masterful production about the trapped survivors of the Kursk disaster. Winner of a 2007 Bell award for Best New Play.

After a decade of inactivity caused by the turmoil of the 90s The Russian Navy undertook a major naval exercise in August 2000. During the training, the pride of the Russian fleet, a nuclear submarine the Kursk, vanished. The wreckage was eventually discovered on the bottom of the ocean with the sailors trapped inside. The Russian Navy faced severe weather conditions and an impossible rescue.  On top of this a serious international crisis was brewing with suspected foreign involvement in the disaster. In the meantime the whole world waited desperately for the survivors to be rescued.

LETTERS END

 Tuesday 4th August at 1:30 pm 6:00pm

Meet the keeper, a man whose job it is to dispose of all unclaimed post. Day after day, year after year, letters and packages fall from above, and the keeper dutifully feeds them into the furnace. That is, until one day, the keeper decides to open one of the unclaimed packages … and his life is changed forever.
With his signature mix of circus and theatre, stage illusion, poetic video projection and physical comedy, Wolfe Bowart invites you to cut the string, tear open the brown paper wrapping and live a wondrous world rediscovered in Letter’s End.

“…During the performance I saw, the biggest critics of all (the kids) giggled, laughed, oohed and aahed throughout and us grownups did the same, suddenly, Bowart made us children again.”
The Independent Weekly
